Spring Art Walk Saturday, May 3, 2008, 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. This spring nine art galleries have joined forces once again to present the Spring Art Walk, an organized tour and arts sale in downtown South Bend. Nine galleries in the downtown area will be participating: Crossroads Gallery is the newest addition to the event. Other galleries include South Bend Regional Museum of Art, Piser Designs, Fire Arts, Inc., The Spurious Fugitive, LLC, Studio Arts Center (Gallery 805 & Studio 807) and Colfax Campus Gallery. This year both CircaArts Gallery and the South Bend Regional Museum of Art are celebrating local artists, both past and present. The South Bend Regional Museum of Art is filling its galleries with the largest and most comprehensive exhibition of its permanent collection featuring the community’s homegrown artists and art educators whose work has been collected by the SBRMA over the past 61 years. SBRMA is also having an exhibition, 30 Years and Counting, for four faculty members that have taught art classes there for over 30 years: Elizabeth James, Jim Borden, Gundega Penikis,and Janet Leazenby. CircaArts Gallery has collaborated with Dave Makielski to bring to you a collection of past and present local artists. Names like Leon Makielski, Ed Harding and Joe Wrobel should bring back fond memories for many people who grew up in South Bend. Art works on this tour will be for sale, framed and unframed. Maps are available at all locations and the Transpo Trolley will be running a 20 minute loop to all the destinations on the tour. |

Artist Open House Thursday, May 8, 2008, 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Please join us for the 3rd annual Artist Open House. All local and regional artists are invited to stop in, discuss current exhibitions on view, meet old friends, make new acquaintances, and discover opportunities available in the community for artists looking to network. New to the event this year, the South Bend Community School Corp/Artist Resource Coalition will be on-hand to discuss opportunities open to qualified artists at the magnet schools offering fine arts in the core curriculum. Refreshments are served courtesy of the SBRMA. An open invitation is extended to all artists in the region. The evening will close with a champagne toast and sweets in honor of the unveiling of the museums new ceramic kiln located in the Pottery Studio.

Opening Reception Friday, June 6, 2008, 5:00 - 7:30 p.m. Join the museum for the Opening Reception for its summer exhibitions: Perform/Install 2, Pastel, Not Chalk, and Julie Farstad. An awards ceremony for Pastel, Not Chalk will be held during the reception. Following the reception, the Perform/Install Kick-Off event featuring a live performance in the Warner Gallery.

Garden Walk: Arts in Bloom Wednesday, July 9, 2008, 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Rain or shine. Visit the gardens of local landscaping gurus and see artists at work painting these beautiful creations. Now in its 19th year, this private, self-guided tour is a fundraiser organized by the Art League. This year's tour will highlight the gardens off Cleveland Road in South Bend, Indiana. Your tour, along with complimentary refreshments, begins at Christ the King Lutheran Church at 17195 Cleveland Road. Tickets are $10 and available for sale the day of the walk from 10 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. |

Great American Salon Series - The Sounds of Sinatra Wednesday, August 6, 2008, 6:30 p.m. SBRMA in association with Lampkin Music Group presents the Great American Salon Series. This return series is the first production of its kind in South Bend with three top-notch musical events featuring performers from the region, several boasting international acclaim, singing the melodies of the greatest 20th century American composers in the finest setting possible, an art museum. The 2008 series continues with "The Sounds of Sinatra” featuring Nafe Alick on August 6, 2008. He defined American music and he did it his way. As one of the 20th century’s most iconic entertainers, Frank Sinatra made an indelible mark on the world. His most iconic hits include: “Come Fly With Me,” “Witchcraft,” “The Lady Is A Tramp,” “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” “Fly Me To The Moon,” “Luck Be A Lady,” “Theme From New York,” “New York,” “My Way,” and many more. A beloved entertainer for six decades, Sinatra achievements earned him three Oscars, two Golden Globes, 10 personal Grammys (and a total of 21 including those for his albums), an Emmy, a Cecile B.
