Festival of Banners - Call for Entries

Calling all citizens! This is your chance to participate in a large public art project in downtown South Bend organized by the South Bend Regional Museum of Art. Participants of all ages are eligible and are invited to submit one original banner design for Festival of Banners. The theme is “Real or Imagined.” Banner designs should depict a scene from the artist’s life either real or imagined. It can be a landscape of a far away exotic land or your backyard. Artists should use their vision to depict someplace real or a place that is from their dreams or imagination.

We welcome all local artists of all skills sets and ages to participate in this great festival.  Please note we encourage anyone age 8 and up to submit.  Children may collaborate in groups of two or more.  Entries chosen will reflect the wide diversity of community participants.  The jury committee will also choose 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners for each category, adult, teen (13 - 18) and children (12 and under).  Awards will be announced at Art Beat on September 4, 2008.  A brochure will be distributed during the festival that will include artist and sponsor recognition, images of the first place banners and a street map showing placement of banners.

Final designs will be selected by a committee of jurors and the creator of the banner will come into the museum’s studios to paint the final banner. Over 60 banners will be chosen to hang from light poles in downtown South Bend and around the community and awards will honored for youth, teens and adults. Entry deadline postmark May 5, 2008.  For entry form and the rules download this form.

Please note:  Do not use letters, numbers, or logos in your design.
